KANZAI
"The sky doesn't fall — it's pulled down."
Story
The Plot
Two hundred years after the Great Fracture — an event that shattered the world's sky into seven drifting layers called the Veil — nations have learned to live beneath perpetual storms. The upper layers belong to the Storm Clans, fearsome warriors who harness the electrical fury of the fractured sky as a weapon. The lower world scratches out existence in the calm between bolts.
Kanzai follows Rael, a disgraced Storm Clan enforcer cast out after refusing an order to destroy a civilian settlement. Stripped of his storm-bond — the sacred link between a warrior and his storm — Rael walks the surface world as an outsider. But when a new force begins deliberately pulling the Veil layers downward, threatening to collapse the sky entirely, Rael becomes the only person who has ever survived a broken storm-bond and lived to fight again.
Hunted by his former clan, allied with an unlikely crew of surface-dwellers, and haunted by the reason he was originally cast out, Rael must climb back through every layer of the Veil — each one more dangerous than the last — before the sky becomes a weapon aimed at everyone below.
Characters
Cast of Characters
Once the most feared enforcer of Clan Voreth, Rael is defined by a single act of mercy that cost him everything. Cold on the surface, devastatingly competent in combat. His severed storm-bond causes him constant phantom pain — and occasional flashes of storm-sight no one else possesses.
A self-taught engineer who has spent her life mapping the Veil from below using forbidden instruments. Sarcastic, brilliant, and deeply suspicious of Storm Clan people — including Rael. Her maps of the Veil turn out to contain information that everyone else is willing to kill for.
The warchief of Clan Voreth and the man who banished Rael. Drevoth is not a simple villain — he genuinely believes pulling the Veil down will end the surface world's suffering by forcing a final reckoning. His logic is iron. His methods are catastrophic.
A young Storm Clan warrior who fled her clan after witnessing Drevoth's true plan. She still has her storm-bond intact, which makes her invaluable — and a constant target. She sees Rael as the person she might become if she isn't careful.
A gruff, decorated commander who fought three Veil Wars and has the scars to prove it. He doesn't trust Storm Clan people on principle — but he trusts competence, and Rael is very competent. Serves as an anchor to the surface world's stakes throughout the series.
A hooded figure who appears at key turning points in the story, always one step ahead of both Rael and Drevoth. Speaks in fragments. Seems to know what the Veil actually is — not a natural phenomenon, but a construction. Season 1 ends before anyone learns their name.
